Sdtrk: ‘Chakkiri cha cha’ by The Peanuts

Err, let’s see here..

+ One of my favourite films is finally coming out on Digital Veritech Disk — Bedazzled! No no, the original, good one from 1967, with Dudley Moore (back when he was funny) and Peter Cook. Hooray hoorah hoorum!
Although I have to say, the remake of Bedazzled! did have that luscious Liz Hurley in its favour. But that’s it, really. Man. One day I’m gonna sit down and write that post about why I don’t really like remakes..

+ Another film to look forward to in the cinemas: this Russian venture called ‘Night watch‘, which is apparently the first in a trilogy. Hope it’s as good as the trailer

+ Want to know whether or not a DVD is shite? See what my pal Jeff has to say, over at digitallyObsessed.com

And, in case you’ve not already noticed, I’ve added a new genus of links over in the lefthand sidebar, called ‘Musique non-stop’, where you’ll find my favourite .mp3 blogs. blowupdoll specialises in female vocalists, mostly European, and usually from the Sixties and Seventies. bubblegum machine has the lock on obscurities from the Sixties and Seventies as well — he’s got a real AM vibe, baby. 20 Jazz Funk Greats is not only named after one of my favourite Throbbing gristle albums, but the psychotics running it hosts a cadre of tunes, ranging from electroclash to new wave, to psych-rock to math-rock. And Music For Maniacs pretty much does what it says on the tin. Right-click and enjoy!

Why are you still reading this? Why aren’t you out seeing Kung-fu hustle*? *shakes fist*

*as an aside, the film ‘Kung-fu hustle’ was directed by Stephen Chow, who also directed and starred in ‘Shaolin soccer’, and my personal favourite, ‘God of cookery’, as well as many other films. When I was in between jobs one Summer, for lack of anything else to do, I watched ‘God of cookery’ and Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Full metal jacket’ once a day, every day, for a week. Just thought you’d like to know that

Sdtrk: ‘A watery death’ by Michael Nyman

Felt the need to post, for better or for worse. Instead of typing this lot out, I could be replying to Emails, or even getting back to the Doll Forum, which I’ve not been in for the past two weeks. What the hell am I doing??

+ Nice new interview with Scary go round‘s John Allison o’er at Thunder Chunky (Wasn’t Thunder Chunky a female wrestler from the 70s?)

+ Anyone who buys me a Nixie clock, or builds one to spec for me, will have me as a sex slave for a year. I recently learned what a Nixie clock is — they’re vacuum-tube-based clocks that were created before LEDs got a technological foothold — and after having seen some pictures, all I can say is that they’re beyond ace. I’m certain you’ll agree!
Hrrm. Should’ve saved that for a ‘This was the Future’ article..

+ Right, bollocks to the Nixie clock. Someone get one of those Actroid Gynoids from the Robot Expo curently taking place in Aichi, Japan. She’s so damn cute!

+ Jeff & I caught the Korean thriller ‘Oldboy‘ down at the Main art theatre this Friday past, as the two reviews I’d read showed it in an appealing light, but I’ll tell ya; the first hour, I was like, ‘I’m totally buying this on DVD when I get home,’ whereas the second hour I was like, ‘Errr — what??’
A drunken womanising salaryman spends his daughter’s birthday in jail overnight. When he gets released, he’s kidnapped and locked into a hotel room for 15 years. Then, he’s released from there, having been told that he’s been framed for his wife’s murder, and he has five days to find out who did it and why. I can’t really get into detail why the film let me down in the end, cos my explanation would be spoilerrific, but I’ll just say that if you can see it for free, do so. It looks beautiful, the couple of action sequences were feckin’ fantastic, and the story was compelling, but the resolution was really frustrating, plus it ran a bit too long towards the end. Like I said, see it for free. Then go out and buy a claw hammer and a squid

+ Go read the best thread ever: this is from some poker players’ forum, in the off-topic section, and it asks, ‘How many 5 year-olds could you take on at once?‘ Not only is it the Textbook Definition of Funny, but it’s an entirely valid question

School is winding down, and I have to do one rather involved final thing for each class, which possibly explains my lack of focussed writing. Or focussed anything, really, as far as these past two weeks have been. Have I mentioned that I’ll be ridiculously ecstatic once I finish school? Not in the past five minutes, you say? Well then.
Right, I’m off to answer some Emails. Or hop back on the Forum. I’ll just flip a fecking coin

A sorry excuse for a post, or, LOOK OUT RUNAWAY LINK TRAIN on October 22nd, 2004

Honestly, it's a thematic coincidence on March 17th, 2007

A sorry excuse for a post, or, LOOK OUT RUNAWAY LINK TRAIN

typed for your pleasure on 22 October 2004, at 1.53 am

Whilst I was asleep this eve, I had a really good idea for a post, but damned if I can remember it now. Egad. I do recall that I dreamt that I met one-half ov Laibach, and they signed my copy ov Neue Slowenische Kunst. Well, they’re in town two days before my birthday next month; perhaps that dream will come true?

OTHER NEWS, IF YOU CAN CALL IT THAT:
+ Marc Almond is okay! But why is ‘stable’ in quotes? That’s a little alarming..
+ My copy ov Mezzo — disk one, with the art box — arrived today. It’s true; Yasuomi Umetsu is a fucking maniac genius. ROCK ON
+ BloodRayne 2 is difficult but enjoyable. After initial misgivings, I’d say that it’s more fun than the first one, and I loved the first one. I still love the first one. Gotta love guns that feed off human blood
+ Mike, Tomas & I caught ‘Team America: World Police‘ last Saturday, which was a laff riot. (One ov) my favourite part(s)? Kim Jong Il releasing the panthers
+ Before that, they showed the trailer for the new Wes Anderson fillum, ‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou’. Maybe this’ll be the first Wes Anderson film I catch in the theatre
+ New Synthetik companion manufacturer link added to the list ov.. Synthetik companion manufacturer links. It’s a German company called Delphi creations, and they construct the rather sexy lass known as SuperDoll. Which reminds me, I really need to write the head ov that company, and inform him that as far as Synthetik companions go, that name’s already taken..
+ Finally, this would be a new film entitled ‘Gusher no binds me’ — could this be the new ‘Ichi the Killer’?

I will try to get my collective shit together and whip up a more substantial post sometime soon, as I do need to make a report on the Interpol concert that Jeff & I saw last week-end. STAY TUNED
