Nothing rhymes with it

Sdtrk: ‘Ford Mustang’ by Serge Gainsbourg

Besides being two of my favourite telly shows that I rabidly watched during my formative years — which really explains a lot — what common thread joins Ultraman and Space: 1999? Is it the kitsch factor? Is it the fact that the production crew did a lot with a little? Well, it’s simpler than that, as you’ll see:

The Jet Beetle seats five ‘comfortably’

Space: only $19.99 (while supplies last)

That’s right — orange suits. Although I have to say that I’ll take the Science Patrol’s uniform over the Alpha Moonbase spacesuits any day. I mean, that’s attire you can pretty much wear anywhere

Orange. My only-ist most-ist favorite chunk of the pallet. I’m back!

You know the Ultraman episodes are out on DVD? I have both sets. They have both the original English dub and Japanese language tracks. Man, I really missed that show! Space 1999 was another one… I have many of the older Gerry and Silvia Anderson puppet shows on DVD also. Now if they would just come out with Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot on DVD my childhood would be complete!

Those jump suits look suspiciously like X-wing pilots’ suits

What up, homie? You have returned to the field of blogging? This can only be a good thing. 🙂
Great to have you back, sir!

O, you know it; I grabbed the Ultraman sets as soon as they were available. Ultraman was always a huge influence on me, from how I get dressed (stand with arm aloft, activate beta capsule, voila), to how I perform at work (crouch slightly forward, cross wrists together with my right forearm vertical and left forearm horizontal in front of it, and the thumb edge of my hands facing my body, shooting from the outer edge of my right hand a particle/light-ray that kills most opponents). A fine series! And a fine way to live.
    And that Fuji… rrrRowr. 🙂

I’m a big Gerry & Sylvia Anderson fan as well. Although Space: 1999 and Thunderbirds are fab series, I’m more keen on UFO and Captain Scarlet — got those on DVD as well. I still want one of the Alpha Moonbase stun guns…

And have you ever seen the revisionist version of Johnny Sokko, called simply, ‘Giant Robo‘? It will change your life.

    Laura –
    That’s… I hadn’t thought of that.
Orange! It’s everywhere! You can’t get away from it!

You know, I don’t think I own anything that’s orange…except for that time Delilah got a hold of that orange marker…
Speaking of, for your veiwing pleasure, Ferret Wrestling in low quality!
